KURA walkway flooring for dairy cows – field report

Böse farm, Bassum/Bramstedt, Germany

Profile:

  • 100 dairy cows
  • paved concrete walkways with 186 m² KURA P
  • since 2004

When the cubicle house was rebuilt in 2004, the walkways were roughened first, and soon afterwards there were the first cow losses. The next experiment was to cut grooves in the concrete. After this the cows slipped less often, but still walked cautiously. Then one walkway was covered with rubber for testing and a little later the second walkway, too.

Henning Böse:

“Things have changed completely, escpecially regarding the cows´ willingness to walk. This is comfort! And comfort is an important prerequisite for a cow to feel good and be productive.

Sometimes it really scares me when the cows run so fast in the cubicle house, but nothing happens. The cows mount much better now, and heat detection has definitely improved.

We are very satisfied about the quality of the mats. No abrasion can be detected on the mats.”
